Today I fell in love with more artwork. It’s a beautiful thing when you come across an artist and think “oh my God, I have to drop everything and write about them.” That hasn’t happened in a while until I read about Kate Bingaman Burt.
Her drawings are incredibly inviting, almost as if you can see and feel every stroke of material. The drawings that I have came across feel like documentaries of her spending habits, a visual “annual report” of consumerist habits. I think it is utterly brilliant as well as incredibly rad. As an artist that loves to discuss work based on spending, I was immediately drawn to this (no pun intended) and you have to admit, her drawing style is so moving. There is such an attention to detail, while still having a whimsical touch to it. Journaling projects are so intriguing, and after coming across this project I may have to put my Moleskine to more use.
Check out her blog and Twitter. I know I’ll be adding them to my Google Reader and following.
Way to go Kate, I really enjoy your work!
